Timeless And Versatile Nursery Decor On A Budget

Creating a space where you will bring home your newborn baby for the first time can be tough.  With so many online places to turn to for “inspiration” it is easy to get overwhelmed with themes, color schemes, window coverings, light fixtures, cribs, changing tables, rocking chairs, and the list doesn’t end there.  Not to mention that little thing called a budget.  There is no shame in setting a budget when it comes to decorating your nursery or any other room in your house.  In fact, a budget will help keep you focused, and in the end help you create a space that will be perfect for your family and your new little bundle of joy.  Here are some simple tips to think about when trying to stay on budget and on target while decorating your baby’s nursery:

{ Think Ahead }  This can be difficult.  With so much on your mind about your rapidly expanding family, you may be trying to stay as “in the moment” as possible.  When it comes to picking out nursery essentials like a crib, or a dresser, try and think about how and if these pieces can be used in the future. Perhaps a convertible crib is your best bet, that way you can use it as a toddler bed too.  Or maybe, instead of picking a traditional glider, you pick a rocking chair, that way you can use it in another part of the house once you grow out of the baby stage.  Thinking ahead can save you money and time.

{ Versatile Pieces }  This goes hand in hand with thinking ahead. Picking pieces that do double duty is not only a good way to save money, but it is also a good way to save space.  Getting a lower dresser that can be used as a changing table as well as a place to store wipes, baby lotion and other newborn essentials is a great space saver.  Bookshelves are a great place to store all those bedtime storybooks now, and as your little one grows it is a great place for them to display their art and favorite stuffed animals.

{ Create A Focal Point }  This doesn’t have to be your baby’s crib (although it could be!).  Take some time to think about a spot in the room where you will put a little extra effort.  This could be a gallery wall filled with photos or meaningful prints, a reading corner, or a beautiful mobile for above the crib.  You might splurge a little in this area but in the long run it will be well worth it.

{ Shop Online }  This is probably a no brainer.  If you find a piece of furniture you really like type the name into your trusty search bar and see if you can find a website that sells it for less, or if there is a site running a sale that you can take advantage of.  Also, online platforms like Etsy are pretty amazing when it comes to sourcing unique nursery decor.  The small shop owners are usually willing to create something custom for you at very affordable prices.

{ It’s All In The Details }  When it comes to your nursery don’t forget the finishing touches.  These small upgrades definitely won’t break the bank, but they will take your space to the next level.  Decorative hooks on the walls for bath robes or displaying special outfits, switching out standard dresser knobs for more unique ones and adding colorful baskets around the room for toys and blanket storage really help pull the room together.
