Hand lettering is so popular this season. It included calligraphy, script, cursive, and anything hand written. The resulting look is informal, relaxed, and warming (if lettering can be warming). It really speaks to the hand crafted and created with care idea. Of course, the holidays are a wonderful opportunity to share hand made gifts and tokens of appreciation. Why not wrap up your gift with these DIY hand lettered wrapping paper? Show how much you care with style, personal touches, and creativity.
DIY Hand Lettered Wrapping Paper #1:
This is a time-consuming, yet totally worth-it way to wrap a few of your special presents!
Step 1: pre-measure and cut your plain wrapping paper
Step 2: write out your favorite holiday lyrics on the wrapping paper! I use a Tombow Dual Brush Pen – these are great tools for making your normal handwriting look cute and calligraphied! Tip: if you haven’t finished a word by the end of the paper, just continue the rest of the letters in a new line, and it will make it look more like wrapping paper! Repeat the lyrics (or choose new ones) until you reach the end. You can leave about an inch at the bottom because the other side of the wrapping paper will cover it when you tape
Step 3: Wrap however you like, but I love making super pointy ends, especially with books
DIY Hand Lettered Wrapping Paper #2:
This is a fun and quick wrapping idea you can do for anyone and everyone! All you need is black paper and chalk…
Step 1: measure and cut paper
Step 2: wrap using washi tape, so you can remove it after you tie with string
Step 3: write the name in chalk (just a regular stick of school chalk) directly on the paper
Step 4: rub the chalk a little bit so it makes the paper look…chalky!
Step 5: tie the string around the package very tightly so the paper will stay when you remove the tape
Step 6: remove the tape carefully and you’re done!
DIY Doodle Wrapping Paper:
This doodle wrapping paper is another fun and easy way to add your own personality to any presents! I found this great plain, grey paper at The Container Store and they have other colors, too.
Step 1: cut, measure, and wrap as normal
Step 2: doodle all over the paper with a white Gelly Roll pen (these are the best for writing on dark surfaces). You can also take the previous method and doodle over the paper before you wrap, so it looks more natural. For this one, I decided I wanted it to frame the present a little so I doodled afterwards.
Erin McCoy – When I’m not in my studio creating artful messes, I’m with the 20 preschool children I work with, creating even more messes! Besides calligraphy, I love food, camping, crafting, and reading…I try to balance them all out every day. I feel I’ve come alive through the expression of my creative process, with the scratching of pens and the whispers of brushes and I can’t wait to help bring people’s ideas to life! { Instagram } { Twitter } { Website }
